Q. What days of the week can I be married in Ireland ?
The good news is that me as your Celebrant, you really can have your wedding on any day of the week!
Q. Will my marriage be legally recognized in Ireland ?
Yes! Your wedding ceremony will be fully legal in Ireland provided that you have lodged your Notification of Intention to Marry with the HSE registry office and fulfilled the necessary legal requirements with them prior to your wedding day. Your legal marriage vows and legal document signing will be seamlessly and beautifully integrated into your personalised, unique wedding ceremony!
Q. Where can I be married in Ireland ?
In Ireland, legal marriage* ceremonies can be conducted at all venues and locations which have an identifiable address, and which are generally open to the public without hindrance or cost.
With so many amazing wedding locations throughout this beautiful country, you really can have the wedding ceremony of your dreams!
If your chosen wedding venue does not comply with the above requirements, dont’ worry – you can still have your wedding ceremony at your chosen venue. To ensure that your marriage* is legal, the marriage part of your ceremony (signing the marriage document and answering legal questions) can be conducted at a different location beforehand, to ensure that your marriage is legal!
Many couples residing overseas choose this option, as it can be so much easier to be married in your country of residence.
Q. Are you a Civil Marriage Celebrant ?
The term “Civil Marriage Celebrant” is not a general legal term in Ireland used to describe marriage celebrants like it is in Australia. There are wedding celebrants in Ireland who are certainly confusing the public by calling themselves Civil Celebrants when they are not actually authorised to conduct legal marriages.
In Ireland legal marriages are conducted by Registered Marriage Solemnisers, the legal term used. You can find the public “Register of Solemnisers” list online easily yourself to check if any celebrant is authorised to conduct legal marriages as you can easily search it for their name.
However the Registered Marriage Solemnisers (Civil Registrars) employed by the Civil Registration Office (Registry Office) can be referred to as Civil Marriage Celebrants so that’s where the confusion also lies.
However in the funeral industry, Civil Celebrants are plentiful as they have been doing their work for a lot longer in Ireland than wedding celebrants.
No wonder there is so much confusion – I hope I have made that clearer, but if you need a more detailed explanation please don’t hesitate to call me anytime for a quick chat. 085 831 3437.
Despite the confusion with terminology, all that matters is yes I can create & conduct your legal wedding ceremony in Ireland.
